Black-owned beauty at Target
Many shoppers looking for products made for melanin-rich skin look for Black-owned brands. Target made two moves in 2020 and 2021 that changed how those brands are found and stocked.
| When | What Target did |
|---|---|
| June 2020 | Added a digital badge, five hearts in different skin tones, to the product details of Black-owned or Black-founded brands on its website. |
| April 2021 | Pledged to spend more than $2 billion with Black-owned businesses by 2025 and to add more than 500 Black-owned brands to its shelves and website. |
| April 2021 | Announced Forward Founders, a programme to help early-stage Black entrepreneurs develop products for mass retail. |
The same 2021 announcement included a goal to raise Black representation in Target's workforce by 20% over three years and $10 million for non-profits.
